Our objective is to make the restoration and revival of the Great Hall within the Palace complex a catalyst not just for the long-term preservation of the building itself but also for its revitalisation – putting it, in every sense, right at the heart of Charing village life.
The Palace and Charing village are inextricably linked. For centuries the village and its people have served the Palace complex and now there is the opportunity to reverse this relationship and for the Palace to serve Charing, Ashford and the wider Mid-Kent community.
Bringing new life and new facilities to part of the Archbishop’s Palace complex and making it relevant to today’s needs will help ensure that a growing 21st century Charing maintains its unique independent character and identity – and remains an attractive place in which to live, visit, shop and work.
Located in the centre of the garden of England, Charing is a quintessential Kentish village rich in charm, heritage and history – something that as the 21st century unfolds we wish to protect for future generations and share with the wider world.
