Why Us?

Our purpose goes beyond the simple restoration of the Charing Archbishop’s Palace complex. We aim is to give it a sustainable future by making it relevant to today’s needs and placing it right at the heart of Charing village life.

We see the principle benefits that will result from the successful achievement of our vision of a restored, revived and revitalised Archbishop’s Palace complex as:

  • The buildings and context of this scheduled monument, which are currently at extreme risk of being lost, will be saved for the nation and the complex will be given an assured and sustainable future
  • Trust ownership will make the Archbishop’s Palace open and available to all, to be enjoyed by future generations
  • The process of restoration will enable us to learn more about and document the archaeology, architecture and cultural history of the site from its origins through to today
  • The site will become a centre for learning about the Archbishop’s Palace’s story, providing formal education and training resources for students at every stage of the educational system and informal education to visitors to Charing
  • New public facilities will provide a point of focus for social interaction within the village and greater opportunity for leisure and relaxation for residents and visitors
  • The revitalised Archbishop’s Palace will attract visitors to Charing, supporting current independent businesses and attracting new businesses to Charing High Street
  • The mixed-use nature of the revitalised Palace will support the creation of varied new employment
  • The unique character of Charing will be enhanced and its independent identity protected
